Eight o’clock on the dot and Stew was calling around the local chandlers and mechanics on the Isles of Scilly checking if anyone had an engine control cable that could replace the one that broke yesterday. Pasty had already given us a contact for someone in Penzance who could possibly put it on the Ferry for us, but that would take another day as by the time they opened the ferry would have already left. And being slightly out of the way, there is only one per day.

We were in luck! After a quick debate whether we should wait until the 10:00 ferry from Tresco, Stew instead jumped into the rib and whizzed across to St Mary’s to pick up the new part. It was the right call as he was back again before the ferry had even arrived.

It was a tight squeeze to get your fingers in to attach the part, but we were all fitted and working again by noon. Keen to make up for lost time, we set off heading towards the Seven Stones Lightship where the wind had died on Friday.

Last time we were here we could see Lands End clearly. Today I never even saw it as we went past. St Ives peaked into view briefly, but other than that we were masked in a cloud of fog most of the day. About 20 miles from Padstow it became even worse. We could only see about 4 boat lengths in front of us. Conditions were still good to kite, so we stuck close and continued. Five miles out from our intended stopping point it grew worse still. We’d made good progress and wanted to end on a good note so we called it a day. Good thing too, as by the time we’d motored into the small harbour, it was starting to get dark.

A Thai Green Curry for dinner and we’re all off for a good night’s sleep! Aiming for Lundy tomorrow, where we’re hoping to see a few puffins.
